Mobius Motors: Manufacturing in Africa

It is robust and durable enough for the African rural terrain. It comes at a cost much cheaper than the currently popular cars mainly imported from Japan and Dubai. Stripped off luxuries such as air conditioning, electric windows and glass windows, the Mobius Motor boasts of a body and suspension capable of carrying a rear load of 500 kg.  It has rear fold up seats useful for carrying large loads or increasing passenger capacity from 5 - 8. It scores high on functionality, storage, safety, design and comfort.

Joel Jackson a Sheffield-UK born IT graduate is the social entrepreneur behind this new innovation. The shortage of better forms of transport indeed limits access to vital services such as hospitals, schools and markets affects the standard of living. Considering that 79% of Kenya's population lives in the rural areas, investment in the transport sector is certainly much needed.

Joel believes that effective transportation remains one of the most fundamental challenges affecting Africa and argues that majority of the vehicles (approximately 98% ) imported into Africa are not strong enough for Africa's terrain. Mobius Motors therefore hopes to ease transportation especially in the rural areas where most roads are either non existent or virtually run down.

This new business venture will certainly create tremendous opportunities for entrepreneurs and farmers in rural areas. What makes the Mobius Motor unique is also the fact that local talent has been utilised as the  design and assembly of the vehicles are done locally thus creating jobs for local mechanics and welders.
